Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 7, 2026 · Last updated: May 7, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information MathPet ("we", "us", "the Operator") collects when you and your child use the MathPet mobile application ("the App"), how we use that information, and the choices you have. It applies to the App and the website at mathpet.app.
MathPet is operated by an individual developer based in Montenegro. Contact: support@mathpet.app.
Plain-English summary. We collect the minimum information needed to run the App — an account so progress can sync, in-app activity, and crash reports. We do not run ads. We do not sell data. We do not build behavioral profiles of children. Payments are handled by Apple and Google; we never see your card details.
1. Who can use MathPet
MathPet is designed for children ages 4–7. The App must be set up by a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 years old. By creating an account or making a subscription purchase, the parent or guardian represents that they have the legal authority to do so on behalf of their child.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information the parent provides at sign-up
- Account identifier. Email address (when the parent signs up with email), Apple ID identifier (when signing in with Apple), or Google account identifier (when signing in with Google). We use this only to authenticate the account and recover access if the device changes.
- Display name. Optional, used in-app to greet the child.
2.2 In-app activity
- Math problems attempted, answers given, and time taken — used by the adaptive difficulty engine and to display progress.
- Pet state, accessories owned, currency balance.
- Streaks, daily goals, session counts.
2.3 Device and technical data
- Device model, operating system version, App version, language preference, time zone.
- Anonymous installation identifier used by analytics and crash-reporting tools.
2.4 Crash and diagnostic data
- If the App crashes or hits an error, a crash report is sent to Firebase Crashlytics. Reports include device data and a stack trace; they do not include personal information typed into the App.
2.5 Subscription information
- Whether the account has an active subscription, the plan (monthly or annual), and the renewal status.
- We do not see or store payment card details. Apple and Google process all payments and only tell us whether the subscription is active.
2.6 Information we do not collect
- We do not collect precise geolocation.
- We do not access photos, contacts, microphone, or camera.
- We do not collect data from children for advertising purposes. We do not advertise inside MathPet at all.
- We do not run third-party advertising SDKs.
3. How we use information
We use the information described above only to:
- Authenticate the account and sync progress across devices.
- Run the adaptive difficulty engine and personalize problem selection for the child.
- Show progress and pet state to the child and (in the future) to the parent.
- Process subscription status received from Apple / Google.
- Diagnose crashes and improve App stability.
- Aggregate anonymous usage statistics to understand which features are used and where children get stuck. These statistics never identify individual users.
- Respond to support requests from the parent.
4. Children's privacy (COPPA)
MathPet is intended to be used by children with parental supervision. We follow the principles of the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), GDPR-K (in the EU), and Apple's and Google's policies for children's apps:
- We collect only what is needed to run the App.
- We do not display third-party advertising.
- We do not engage in behavioral advertising or build profiles of children for marketing.
- We do not share children's information with third parties except service providers needed to run the App (see Section 6).
- A parent can request access to, correction of, or deletion of their child's data at any time by emailing support@mathpet.app.
5. Legal basis (GDPR / EEA users)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal bases for processing personal data are:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the App and the subscription you have purchased.
- Legitimate interests — to maintain App stability and prevent abuse, balanced against your privacy rights.
- Consent — where required, for example to enable analytics in some jurisdictions. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
- Legal obligations — to comply with applicable laws.
6. Service providers and third parties
We share data only with the following service providers, and only the data they need to provide their service:
- Google (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Firebase Crashlytics). Hosts the account database, syncs progress, and receives crash reports. Data is stored on Google's servers, primarily in the United States. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
- Apple Inc. Processes Apple Sign-In and App Store subscription payments. Apple's privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy.
- Google LLC (Play Store). Processes Google Sign-In and Google Play subscription payments.
We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
7. International data transfers
Our service providers (Firebase, Apple, Google) operate globally. Data may be transferred to and stored in the United States and other countries. Where transfers from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland occur, our providers use Standard Contractual Clauses or other approved safeguards.
8. Data retention
- Account and progress data is kept while the account is active.
- If you delete your account or request deletion, we remove the account record and associated progress within 30 days. Crash and aggregated analytics data may persist longer in anonymized form.
- Subscription billing records are retained as required by tax and accounting law (typically up to 7 years).
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under GDPR, the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), or similar laws, including:
- Access to the personal data we hold about you or your child.
- Correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion of personal data.
- Restriction or objection to certain processing.
- Data portability.
- Withdrawal of consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@mathpet.app. We aim to respond within 30 days. Your rights do not depend on whether you have a subscription.
10. Account and data deletion
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing support@mathpet.app. We will confirm by email and delete the data within 30 days. In-app account deletion will be added in a future update.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data — encryption in transit (HTTPS), encryption at rest by Firebase, and limited access to production systems. No system is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to this Policy
If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you in the App or by email. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated Policy.
